Mandaue seeks new head for city college

- Flor Z. Perolina -

CEBU, Philippines -  The Mandaue City Government is looking for a permanent administrator for the Mandaue City College.

The position for college administrator became vacant after the Civil Service Commission (CSC) denied the city’s motion for reconsideration for Dr. Susana Cabahug to continue holding the post. The school is owned by the city government.

Cabahug was appointed by former Acting Mayor Amadeo Seno as MCC administrator after the city lost its trust and confidence on Dr. Paulus Cañete, the school’s first president, who is now running a separate school bearing the same name.

Since 2007, Cabahug remained the acting administrator of MCC as the city could not find a replacement.

With CSC’s decision, however, Cabahug would need to go.

Still, lawyer Jamaal Calipayan, executive secretary of Mayor Jonas Cortes, explained that the CSC ruling does not mean Cabahug cannot be appointed to another position. Cabahug is a regular employee of the Mandaue City government with a designation of Security Officer II.

City Administrator James Abadia also said the city has not received a formal copy of the CSC decision, but the city lawyer will confer and decide whether or not to appeal the same.

Qualifications for administrator include an appropriate post graduate degree; five years of relevant experience, preferably in government service; a Civil Service Eligibility or Career Executive Service Eligibility; and a good moral character. Applicants should also not be more than 61 years old. –/JMO
