Man jailed for gun possession

CEBU, Philippines - Operatives of the Opao Police Station in Mandaue City arrested an armed man yesterday afternoon in Sitio Orchid, Barangay Opao.

The suspect, Joemer Singahid, 31, married and a resident of the said place was arrested by a team led by station chief P/Insp. Stephen Amamag-id after he was caught with a 9mm pistol in his possession. The gun was loaded with seven bullets.

An argument between Singahid and his ex-wife at the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Barangay Looc, Mandaue City led to his arrest. People at the LTO where his ex-wife is working got frightened when they saw Singahid with a gun. They then sought the help of the police.

Singahid reportedly got irked when he received a text message that a man had visited his wife at her office.

At the police station, Singahid admitted owning the firearm but failed to present documents to prove his has permit to carry the same.
