Capitol thanks Sens. Pia, Peter
CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Provincial Board recently approved a resolution expressing its thanks to Senator Alan Peter “Companero” Cayetano for extending assistance to indigent patients confined at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.
Coursed through the office of first district provincial board member Julian Daan was P100,000 through the effort of Dr. Nerito “Rey” Martinez, DM, PH.D, a staff of Senator Cayetano and the organizer of the Companero Cayetano Tabang Volunteer.
Provincial Board Members Julian Daan and Sergio Restauro, who introduced the resolution, said each indigent patient can avail of P1,000 for medicine.
Senator Alan Peter Cayetano and his sister, Senator Pia Cayetano, signed a Memorandum of Agreement with Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.
Both senators the deposited funds at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center are for indigent residents in Cebu province and neighboring provinces confined at the hospital.
Unlike other medical assistance programs from other offices, the Office of Cayetano prioritizes patients at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.
Close to 1,000 residents in Cebu province benefited from the program since it started in the middle of 2011.
Aside from barangay captains, councilors, municipal and city mayors, governors, the medical referrals were also given to parish priests with the aim of bringing the program to the grassroots.
“Gusto man gud nato nga walay pilion sa makapahimulos sa maong programa ilabi na gayud sa atong mga kabus nga ma admit sa Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center,” Martinez said.
Martinez who organized the Companero Cayetano Tavang Volunteer said the program was implemented with the use of the Priority Development Assistance Fund of Senators Alan Peter and Pia Cayetano.
However, the funds will be use for the purchase of medicines of the patients admitted at Vicente Sotto Hospital.
