Boy's family to receive cash aid from Mandaue

- Jose P. Sollano -

MANILA, Philippines - The Mandaue City government will provide financial assistance to the family of the 10-year-old boy who was killed after a 40-foot buri tree fell on him during the onset of Typhoon Sendong in barangay Cubacub last week.

Roger Paller, public information officer of Mandaue City, said the City Social Welfare Office is now preparing the necessary papers for the financial assistance.

Antonio Cortes Jr. was at home cleaning a mess while his four siblings were in another room with a six-month-old baby girl sleeping in a cradle.

The boy’s parents were at work at the time when a buri tree fell on the house, pinning the boy and throwing the baby girl in the cradle a few feet away.
