CEBU, Philippines - Clearing operations kicked off at the stretch of Gomez Street beside the St. Joseph National Shrine in Barangay Centro, Mandaue City to pave way for the drainage rehabilitation project in the area.
Gomez Street is among the flood-prone areas in Mandaue City especially during a heavy downpour. The flooding is usually made worse by the water coming from the public market.
The street has been cleared of illegal structures and ambulant vendors.
However, because the project is still subject to bidding, the City Engineering office has decided to clear the canals first to prepare them for the installation of 36-inch culverts so that the water outfall will head toward a creek in Sitio Ihawan in Barangay Mantuyong.
