Eversley gets mammogram machine from Quisumbing

- Flor Z. Perolina -

CEBU, Philippines - Sixth district Rep. Luis Gabriel Quisumbing yesterday turned over a mammogram machine to the Eversley Child Hospital and Sanitarium in barangay Jagobiao, Mandaue City.

Quisumbing said since it would cost P2,000 to P3,000 for one to undergo a mammogram for early detection of breast cancer, a prohibitive price for ordinary Cebuanos, he said his office is glad that somebody from the United States helped him to bring the technology to the sixth district.

Breast cancer can be cured if detected early.

During the turn over yesterday, Quisumbing said his constituents in the district can avail of the mammogram for a minimal fee which the hospital will later assess for the maintenance of the machine.

Residents from other towns and cities may avail of the machine based on the fee imposed by the hospital.

“Although the 6th district is classified as highly urbanized, there’s an increasing number of patients that cannot afford the services of expensive private hospitals. As part of my continuing commitment to have accessible and quality healthcare services for the residents of the 6th district, I am donating this mammogram machine to the Eversley Childs Sanitarium Hospital for the use of indigent patients from Cebu especially those from the 6th district, in the Municipalities of Cordova, Consolacion, and City of Mandaue,” Quisumbing said.

The General Electric (GE) Senographe DMR mammogram machine, normally costing $24,999 or more than P1,079,000, came from the United States through the efforts of Engr. Ruben C. Hermogino and Rizal-MacArthur Memorial Foundation (RMMF), who partnered with Cong. Quisumbing in bringing the technology to the 6th district.  (FREEMAN NEWS)
