Mandaue set to amend old truck ban ordinance
CEBU, Philippines - The Mandaue City government will amend some provisions in the old truck ban ordinance to pave the way for its implementation.
Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (TEAM) director Edwin Ermac in an interview with reporters said that committee chairman on transportation Councilor Elstone Dabon will no longer draft a truck ban ordinance after learning that a such already exists, which was approved in 1986 and never fully implemented.
The old ordinance was in effect only in barangay Poblacion.
Ermac said an amended ordinance will stipulate that the truck ban in the major thoroughfares will start from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Ermac said the ban will minimize traffic accidents along the corners of Canduman and North Road.
He said most ten wheelers and trailers would often breakdown due to mechanical defects especially during the peak hours in the afternoon which often choked traffic in national highways.
He said to avoid traffic accidents in the area, TEAM will soon put up a signage that would remind motorists to check their brakes.
“Dulhogon man gud nang lugara busa sagad naa diha ang disgrasya,” Ermac said.
The amended ordinance would prohibit the movement of trucks weighing 4,500 tons up.
Only delivery trucks with perishable goods or carrying goods for export will be allowed in the major streets. (FREEMAN)
