CEBU, Philippines - The Mandaue City council yesterday approved an ordinance which grants a two-month moratorium on the monthly rental in the new public market.
Councilor Jimmy Lumapas, sponsor of the ordinance and chairman of the committee on market and abattoir, said the moratorium is granted to vendors to give them the chance to recover expenses incurred for the transfer to the new market.
The ordinance states that all current and new stallholders of the new public market from December 2011 up to June 2012 can avail of the moratorium.
However, future stallholders who may rent or buy a stall in the market from a previous stallholder will not be entitled to the moratorium.
The new Mandaue City public market, located at the back of the city sports complex, will open on December 18.
