MCC-Cabahug produces first LET passer

-

CEBU, Philippines - The Mandaue City College has produced its first Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) passer.

Dr. Susana Cabahug, MCC administrator, said Maribel Mirafuentes, 30, is their first LET board passer. Mirafuentes, married, a resident of barangay Alang-Alang, Mandaue City, is a mother of a 7-year-old boy.

Mirafuentes graduated cum laude in March 12 this year with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Education.

She was, however, the school's lone graduate to take the exam, as her four batchmates opted to continue their review.

Upon learning that she was among those who passed the LET, she thanked God for the achievement, saying her sacrifices being a working student has finally paid off. Mirafuentes is from a from a poor family in far-flung barangay of Kalabago in Samboan town. She was however a consistent honor student during her elementary years.

During high school, Mirafuentes recalled that she had to walk over mountains for four hours just to reach San Sebastian High School in barangay Poblacion, where she graduated a salutatorian.

She then pursued her college studies at the University of Southern Philippines using what little she got from being a househelp of a family in Cebu City. She was, however, forced to stop when the family she was working for migrated to Australia.

Mirafuentes said that she was only able to continue her college education after her husband Philipp John who worked as a security guard offered to send her to school again, and eventually enrolled her at the government-run MCC.

At present, Mirafuentes is now processing her application with Canduman National High School as an Alternative Learning System (ALS) teacher in her barangay.
