Lovers figure in road mishap

CEBU, Philippines - Two lovers sustained injuries Wednesday evening after they were hit by a motorcycle while crossing A. S. Fortuna Street in barangay Banilad.

Noreen Ann Basubas, 17, of barangay Cabangcalan and boyfriend John Archie Tul-id, 20, of barangay Banilad were crossing the street that night when a Sunriser motorcycle, driven by Jimmy Pepito of barangay Tayud, Consolacion town, hit them.

As Basubas lay on the pavement, a taxi ran over her. She was taken to hospital and was reportedly scheduled for surgery, PO1 Martin Jay Dejito said.

Except for bruises in the different parts of his body, Tul-id was out of danger.

Dejito said only Pepito was detained at the Centro Police station while taxi driver Elpradi Panunse of Capitol Hills, Cebu City was not.

Dejito said Basubas in now in stable condition in a hospital in Cebu City. - THE FREEMAN
