Children of fire victims get free school supplies

CEBU, Philippines - More than P20,000 worth of school supplies were distributed Wednesday to 84 children of fire victims in sitio Pulang-Bukid, barangay Alang-alang, Mandaue City.

The children are pupils of the Umapad Elementary School.

The gesture came after city Councilor Demetrio Cortes Jr. learned that a pupil was overheard saying he hoped some kind-hearted persons would donate books and notebooks to replace those that were burned in the Friday fire.

Cortes used part of the proceeds from the "fun run" he had initiated last Oct. 26 to mark his 62nd birthday to buy the school supplies.

The Leonard Wood Elementary School in barangay Jagobiao was one of the beneficiaries of that fun-run. - THE FREEMAN
