CEBU, Philippines - The ongoing conflict between Philippine Air Lines and its former employees is getting in the nerves of Lapu-Lapu City.
In a resolution, the city council has appealed to President Aquino to take steps to warrant the immediate settlement of the labor and management conflict between the PAL management and the employees due to the huge adverse effect on the tourism industry in the country.
The resolution was authored by Councilor Eduardo Cuizon.
City officials have cited the cancellation of some domestic and international flights due to lack of manpower and logistical support.
The city council said that there is an immediate and pressing need to resolve the conflict between PAL management and its employees, but if it continues, it will jeopardize the implementation of programs and projects of the city government and disrupt the delivery of basic services to the people.
The conflict started after PAL implemented its outsourcing of employees program that affected more than 2,000 employees.
Although, some of the affected employees accepted the offer of the management, others refused and are now protesting.
Some of the PAL employees at Mactan Airport are now camped out at the checkpoint area in barangay Pusok. - THE FREEMAN
