Talisay won't reopen old tricycle terminal

-

CEBU, Philippines - The Talisay City government has turned down the appeal of tricycle drivers to open the old terminal in Tabunok Public Market.

Tronan Lastimosa, vice Chairman of the City of Talisay-Traffic Operation Development Authority (CT-TODA) said the reopening of the terminal no longer fits in the current traffic setup in the Tabunok area.

"Kinahanglan nga subayon ang ordinansa sa siyudad kabahin sa rota sa traysikol diin lakip sa ordinansa mao nga mobalik gyud sila sa ilang point of origin kon terminal," he said.

Lastimosa said since the terminal was already transferred within the premises of the Lagtang Public Market, all tricycles that drop their passengers there must come back to pick up passengers.

Early this week, some tricycle drivers trooped to the city hall to ask the city officials to reopen the old terminal in Tabunok.

They said only about 10 to 20 percent of them have passengers that go to the Lagtang Public Market, while the rest disembark in Tabunok.

Lastimosa said the CT-TODA wants the old terminal to remain closed.

Last October 20, a dry-run was made bringing all Tabunok PUJs and tricycles to the Lagtang market being their last stop.

The city has opted for this new traffic scheme to bring in customers to the new market in which vendors had complained of low sales. (FREEMAN)
