CEBU, Philippines - Twenty-one tricycles in Mandaue City were apprehended yesterday as The Traffic Enforcement And Management (TEAM) started its crackdown on drivers with fake franchises and running after those who have failed to renew their genuine franchises.
Thirteen drivers were apprehended and issued temporary Operators Permit (TOP) after their drivers licenses were confiscated for failing to show business plates.
Team director Edwin Ermac said the TOPs are valid for 72 hours. Each will have to pay LTO P6,000 if they want to have their licenses back.
Eight tricycle drivers were issued citation tickets for fake franchises and will have to pay P500 at the city treasurer's office or face charges in court, Ermac said.
The crackdown came after city administrator James Abadia said drivers have until October 15 to have franchises verfified in his office to find out whether these are genuine or fake. (FREEMAN)
