More eco-wardens

- Flor Z. Perolina -

CEBU, Philippines - The Mandaue City government wants members of the Traffic Enforcement and Management (TEAM) and the Janitorial and Security Services Unit (JASSU) to become deputized eco-wardens in the city.

Engr. Ricardo "Gaga" Mendoza, barangay coordinator of Solid Waste Management during an interview, said all the TEAM and Jassu personnel in the city attend half-day seminars in batches prior to becoming deputized eco-wardens.

The wardens will then be authorized to go after violators of the city ordinance on solid waste management and R.A 9003 or the Solid Waste Act of 2000.

He said he himself talks about "climate change and solid waste management program" of the city while Placido Jerusalem, the head of the Environmental Enforcement Team handles "enforcement of the city ordinance and the provision of the R.A 9003."

Barangay tanods, TEAM, and Jassu personnel will help the office of Placido apprehend violators. — (FREEMAN)
