Mandaue Alay-Lakad generates P300,000

CEBU, Philippines - Mandaue City's Alay Lakad 2011 has generated P300,000, which is ten percent higher than last year's earnings.

Godofredo Castañares Jr., Alay-Lakad over-all chairman, said last Sunday's Alay-Lakad registered 6,000 participants coming from the different public and private schools in the city, city hall workers, and the local police.

Based on the records of the City Social Welfare and Services (CSWS), 23 scholars are funded by Alay-Lakad, six of whom are in college while the rest are high school students.

Maricel Yu of the City Social Welfare and Services (CSWS) said the foundation does not only give financial assistance but also follows up the standing of students and helps them maintain an average grade of 80 to 85.

Castañares said the beneficiaries come from poor families and with more funds the number of beneficiaries to be chosen by the CSWS, can be increased.

Awarded with P2,000 during the program held after the "walk for a cause" were the Department of Education for having the most number of participants, Tipolo National High School as the most lively, Cabancalan NHS as most colorful, and Don Gerardo Ouano Memorial HS as the most disciplined.
