3 men caught transporting waste sans permit

CEBU, Philippines - Three men were apprehended Tuesday afternoon for unloading waste from a septic tank on board a truck unto an open drainage at the back of the Cebu International Convention Center at the Reclamation Area in barangay Subangdaku, Mandaue City.

Arrested by the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (TEAM) were Joel Maligmat, 33, his brother Jack Maligmat, 22, and Juramel Labastida, of legal age, all residents of barangay Pusok in Lapu-Lapu City.

The truck is owned by Southern Septic Tank, now impounded at the Jadewell impounding area in barangay Ibabao.

The three men were temporarily detained at the Centro police for having no permit to transport waste and for lack of an Environmental Compliance Certification (ECC) from the DENR.

A criminal case for violation of the RA 9003 was filed against the men in the City Prosecutor's Office. - THE FREEMAN
