"Cooperative fiesta" hailed a success
CEBU, Philippines - The 2nd Lapu-Lapu City Cooperative Network Fiesta last week attended by sixty six community and company-based cooperatives was a big success, declared Jimmy Glomar, head of the city network of cooperative.
Glomar said the one-week activity gave the cooperatives the opportunity to promote their products and avail the services from the city government and the Cooperative Development Authority.
The cooperatives also showed cooperation during the planting of mangroves and other related activities. More than 2,000 mangroves were planted at the seashores of barangay Calawisan.
Mayor Paz Radaza has assured the city would continue to support cooperatives based in the city.
This year's gathering aimed to provide access to economic and other development opportunities especially among marginal sectors of the community, promote and strengthen unity and solidarity in achieving sustained growth and development of the cooperatives, its members, and indirect beneficiaries.
The cooperatives also sponsor livelihood skills training to its members as well as to city residents who are non-members.
The skills training includes powdered detergent and soap making, dishwashing liquid making, baking, cake decorating, and basic icing preparation, whole body massage, facial massage and scrub, rag making, fresh flowers arranging, and foot reflexotheraphy.
The residents of Lapu-Lapu also availed of the low prices of the products produced by different cooperatives during the trade fair and exhibit held in front of the city hall. - THE FREEMAN
