It's easy to get to landfill
CEBU, Philippines - The management of Asian EnergySystems Corporation, the Renewable Energy Company yesterday denied reports that it is difficult to access its sanitary landfill in Consolacion town because of soft soil and sharp incline of the road leading to it.
The management also strongly denied that the photo of a dumpsite that appeared in the Metro section of this paper dated October 8, 2011 is its own sanitary landfill.
In a statement, the company said the photo is the open dumpsite owned by the municipal government of Consolacion, which is adjacent to the company's sanitary landfill in barangay Polog.
The open dumpsite is still being used by the municipal government of Consolacion, although the town already dumps garbage at the sanitary landfill in barangay Polog.
The statement also said the road leading to the sanitary landfill is properly compacted and properly maintained, with vehicles passing by the area and garbage compactors owned by private hauling firms have been dumping their garbage in the sanitary landfill since it opened this year.
Proper lights are also in place along the road leading to the sanitary landfill.
The sanitary landfill, owned by Manila-based Asian Energy System Corporation, the Renewable Energy Company, is now fully operational, accepting garbage from different local government units and private companies.
The company accommodates garbage from adjoining towns and cities as well as private entities from within the province of Cebu.
The state-of-the art sanitary landfill in Consolacion, the first in Cebu, is seen to solve for a significant period of time the garbage problem of Metro Cebu.
It was inaugurated last December and will generate power.
Those who wish to avail of the facility will have to pay specific Tipping Fee to Asian EnergySystems Corporation.
The firm has assured safety and said the facility has complied with the necessary regulations and guidelines stipulated in Section 59 of Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid waste Management Act of 2000.
