CEBU, Philippines - The Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (TEAM) will now start to apprehend public and private vehicles that allow passengers to cling onto railings or occupy roofs.
Councilor Elstone Dabon authored Ordinance No. 12-2011-638, otherwise known as the “Road discipline and Safety Ordinance of the City,” that was approved the city council.
Councilor Elstone Dabon who heads the committee on transportation and communication said this ordinance is aimed at protecting persons especially children and vehicles.
The ordinance stipulates that adults should give way to children inside passenger jeepneys.
Violators will be fined P100 for the first offense; P200 for the second offense; P500 for the third.
For the fourth offense, imprisonment of not less than 10 days but not more than one month will be meted out.
For the fifth offense, cancellation of franchise or license of the driver will be imposed on the violator. (FREEMAN)
