Mandaue donates computer equipment to public schools

- Flor Z. Perolina -

CEBU, Philippines - To enhance the quality of education and to change their obsolete computer equipment, the Mandaue City government yesterday turned over P1.6 million worth of office and Information and Communication Technology equipment to 15 public schools in the city.

Aside from the public schools, the city division office was also a recipient of the computer donation from the city government.

Asst. Division Superintendent Nimfa Bongo said the education department expects the recipient-schools to be much better by the end of the school year in their Main Percentage Score (MPS), the total score of their students in all achievement tests.

Division superintendent Virginia Zapanta for her part thanked the mayor, the school board, and city officials for the donation.

Mayor Jonas Cortes who personally turned over the equipment to DepEd yesterday morning said technology is important and this is timed with the full automation project of the city which kicked off last January and as a result the city has surpassed its P170 million annual target in collection of business tax because by January alone it collected P210 million in business tax.

Cortes urged the teachers to maximize the use of the equipment.

"Bahala maguba basta gigamit. Ang importante nga mapahimuslan sa mga kabataan," Cortes said.

The equipment included 23 desktop computers, one laptop, one card printer package, three copiers, and four eye-level physician scales.
