66 coops to join "fiesta" in Lapu-Lapu on October 1
CEBU, Philippines - Sixty-six community and company based cooperatives will join the "2nd Lapu-Lapu City Cooperative Network Fiesta" which will open on October 1.
In yesterday's press conference, Jimmy Glomar, head of the Lapu-Lapu City Cooperative Network, and representatives of the different cooperatives in the city said the nine-day activity will feature an assortment of activities.
Glomar said the city government has assured of its assistance.
He said cooperatives aim to provide access to economic and other development opportunities especially among marginal sectors of the community, promote and strengthen unity and solidarity in achieving sustained growth and development of the cooperatives, its members, and indirect beneficiaries.
Cooperatives also sponsor livelihood skills training to its members as well as to city residents who are non-members.
This skills training includes powdered detergent and soap making, dishwashing liquid making, baking, cake decorating, and basic icing preparation, whole body massage, facial massage and scrub, rag making, fresh flowers arranging, and foot reflexotheraphy.
Aside from skills training, the cooperatives in Lapu-Lapu City will also show their concern for the protection of environment.
More than 2,000 mangroves will be planted at the seashores of barangay Calawisan in Lapu-Lapu City.
A trade fair and exhibit will be held to draw attention to the activity.
