Mandaue inaugurates renovated session hall

- Flor Z. Perolina -

CEBU, Philippines -  Mandaue City’s newly renovated session hall was blessed and inaugurated yesterday.

The renovation of the session hall, which now serves as a multi-purpose facility, cost the city government P2 million.

It would host the regular sessions of the Mandaue City council as well as other events.

This renovation is the first one after it was constructed 74 years ago.

This old structure is part of the Mandaue Presidencia constructed in 1937 during the incumbency of then Gov. Sotero Cabahug, a Mandauehanon.

The flooring remains in its original state while the windows were restored to their original state: metal panel.

The main door is made of wood.

According to Architect Araceli Barlam of the city engineer’s office who is in-charge of the project said the hardiflex ceiling dome is patterned after the world’s renowned legislative halls.

The walls are upholstered with leather for great acoustic value aside from its luxurious and soft effect.

The contract was awarded to PLD Construction and approved in October, 2010. The actual construction work started in March, 2011.

Barlam said they have yet to implement phases three and four of the project, which consist of tables and chairs arranged according to classroom type each equipped with task lights to complement the dim lights.

Part of this is the installation of a sound system using wireless microphones.

Fr. Randy C. Nebria of the National Shrine of St. Joseph celebrated the Mass.

During yesterday’s Inauguration, the city council approved a resolution authored by Councilor Diosdado Suico, the majority floor leader, expressing their sincere thanks and profound gratitude to Mayor Jonas Cortes for his noble efforts in the renovation of the legislative hall of the Mandaue Presidencia or city hall.
