Former boxer falls in buy-bust operation

- Flor Z. Perolina -

CEBU, Philippines - A former boxer was arrested by the police of the Basak station after handing over shabu to a poseur buyer Friday evening in barangay Labogon, Mandaue City.

Arrested by the police, led by police chief P/Insp. Stephen Amamag-id, was Apolonio Suico Jr., of legal age and a resident of Labogon.

Seized from Suico were shabu, P600, and a cellular phone.

Amamag-id said Suico admitted he could sell shabu in at least 20 to 30 small packs per day.

The arrest could have been Suico's second. In July 27, he eluded arrest for the same offense.

Interviewed over GMA-7, Suico sold illegal drugs due to poverty.

He said when his boxing career ended in 2004 following a fight in Thailand, he never landed a legitimate job.
