Barangay introduces container gardening

CEBU, Philippines - Officials of barangay Bakilid recently launched the "Barangay Container Gardening Contest."

Barangay Bakilid captain Dionisio Villamor told The FREEMAN that since Bakilid is located at the city's commercial and industrial area, its hard for residents to find lots for backyard gardening.

Villamor said Mayor Cortes has urged barangay captains and officials to implement the "backyard gardening program" to give residents the opportunity to earn extra income.

In the case of Bakilid, Villamor said residents have introduced container gardening through a contest.

According to Villamor, this project will encourage the people of Bakilid to clean and beautify their own homes and surroundings as well as encourage proper disposal of waste by segregation. - THE FREEMAN
