Lapu-Lapu's OBO strengthens campaign against illegal buildings

- Jose P. Sollano -

CEBU, Philippines - The Office of the Building Officials in Lapu-Lapu City is now closely monitoring newly-constructed buildings following reports that there are several of these that were constructed without the necessary permits.

The city has also tasked village officials to help in locating these violators.

Earlier, Mayor Paz Radaza said that the city government has to intensify its collection of taxes and other fees from business and industrial establishments in the city.

The city mayor said that they need these revenues for the implementation of the city's priority projects.

Radaza said the barangays are also getting shares from this collected income, hence, it is just proper that they should also cooperate in this monitoring activities. The city has also warned to slap sanctions against these violators.

Leo Mercado, president of the Association of Barangay Councils, said that all barangay chiefs have already pledged to help Radaza's call to intensify the city's tax collection. —  THE FREEMAN
