- Flor Z. Perolina -

CEBU, Philippines - A former Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) president and an ex-officio member of the Lapu-Lapu city council died of cardiac arrest past 6:00p.m. the other day.

Ernest Luke "Boboy" Weigel, 50, was declared dead on arrival when brought to the Chong Hua Hospital past 6pm last Wednesday.

Ernest Luke served as barangay captain of Gun-ob, Lapu-Lapu City from 1994 to 2003, and as an ABC president during the term of his father, Mayor Ernest Weigel, for three terms before he died in 2003.

When his term ended, he did not join politics again, as according to his mother Paz, he wanted to live a private life with his family.

Family members said that except for having a high blood sugar, the former ABC president had no other health problems, hence, they were shocked by the news of his death.

The former official will be buried at the Lapu-Lapu City Catholic Cemetery in sitio Humay-humay in barangay Gun-ob, where his father was also interred.

Family members said that the tentative date for his burial is tentatively scheduled on September 10, while waiting for the arrival of Ernest Luke's siblings from the USA.

Ernest Luke was the second to the eldest son of the late Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Ernest Weigel Jr. and Paz. He left behind eight children, five of them are from his legal wife. - THE FREEMAN
