Cordova's police chief figures in road mishap

CEBU, Philippines - The chief of the Codova police station was hospitalized after figuring in an accident Monday evening along the national highway in barangay Suba- Basbas in Lapu-Lapu City.

P Sr/Insp. Noli Cernio was on his way home from work at around 8 pm when the the motorcycle he was driving was sideswiped by an L-300 van with plate number UTR-489 which was driven by Virgilio Lamosao of Poblacion West, Moalboal town.

The van's side mirror was broken and one of its rear wheels exploded.

The Lapu-Lapu City traffic division said Cernio and his motorcycle were dragged a few meters away from where the two vehicles made contact, the police official sustaining bruises on his face and wounds on his left arm and left foot.

Cernio was immediately taken to the Mactan Doctors' Hospital by the van's driver and passengers.

PO1 Venancio Solarte of the traffic division said the police are yet to determine who was at fault. An investigation will be conducted once Cernio is discharged from hospital.

Although the driver was not detained, he promised to pay for the official's hospital bills.
