CEBU, Philippines - Most of the projects that were completed during the second term of Mayor Jonas Cortes focused on flood control and the drainage system.
Engr .Tessie Tibon, head of the construction division of the City Engineer's Office, said her division is glad that most of Cortes' projects concentrated on controlling floods.
Tibon said the average politician would typically prioritize road projects instead of giving attention to flood control and the drainage system.
In her report, Tibon said there were at least 14 projects for flood control and drainage system that were started and completed from July 2010 up to August 2011 with an estimated cost of P12 million in all.
The 14 projects completed this month include the pipe culvert installation at Pilit Road in barangay Cabancalan at P725,000, drainange improvement along M. L. Quezon towards Hernan Cortes Street at barangay Cabancalan at P745,000, improvement of the drainage system along Albano Street fronting the barangay Subangdaku barangay hall at P500,000, installation of a drainage at Lower Purok 5 to connect the main road in barangay Cubacub at P1 million, construction of a sewage system with concrete cover at the back of Insular Rattan going to Palmera Homes in barangay Tabok at P1 million, drainage at Gawad-Kalinga Housing project in barangay Maguikay P1.4 million, improvement of drainage of Tawason-Casili Road at P583,996, construction of a drainage for Sector 3 going to Petron boundary for Basak Fatima Valley at P1million, construction of a drainage along Relis and Palmera Homes at P794,920, construction of a drainage at Cesar Cabahug Street Phase II in barangay Cambaro at P341,414, riprapping of Mahiga creek from Visayas A to Pier 7 in barangay Subangdaku at P969,573, improvement of drainage at sitio Tinago in Alang-Alang at P749,973, rehabilitation /construction of drainage of culvert from J.M Ceniza to LTO in barangay Looc at P966,556, and riprapping of Tipolo creek on both sides of sitio Maharlika in Tipolo at P1 million.
Six ongoing projects include the improvement of drainage fronting the city jail at P777,777, improvement of drainage along H. Abellana Street in Canduman at P974,990, concreting of sidewalk and pipe culver installation at E. Rosal Street in barangay Guizo at P3.4 million, concreting & drainage & construction of Moonlight Road connecting Parkmall AT P8.3 million, construction of drainage along Palm Hills going to sitio Tundan in barangay Basak at P309,772, and improvement of the drainage system along G. Ouano Street in barangay Opao at P1 million.
Tibon said that aside from these ongoing projects, her office is also preparing the program of works for eight projects that still concentrate on flood control and drainage system which have been forwarded to the city mayor's office for approval.
