CEBU, Philippines - The Lapu-Lapu City council has approved an ordinance which would allocate P643,000 for the purchase of communication equipment for the tourist police for surveillance purposes as well as the construction of sub-stations.
Mayor Paz Radaza said around 60 percent of tourists who visit Cebu stay in Lapu-Lapu City.
"My administration is fully aware that the city's bread and butter is in tourism. Tourism is the proverbial goose that lays the golden egg for Lapu-Lapu City," the mayor said.
Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo has issued a memorandum circular addressed to all provincial governors, city mayors, and municipal mayors to provide support and assistance for the implementation and sustained operation of the National Tourist Oriented Police for Community Order and Protection Project. - THE FREEMAN
