Paz watching garbage collection

CEBU, Philippines - The volume of garbage being brought to the Material Recovery Facility in barangay Mactan is increasing, which can only mean that segregation is not being properly practiced in the barangays.

For now, Mayor Paz Radaza may appear to have no mean bone in her body, just telling barangay captains ever so nicely to improve garbage collection.

Who can tell, it could be the calm before the storm, an observer said.

Was it a warning when she said that the proper collection of garbage is the responsibility of every barangay official?

"Manghinaut unta kita nga ang atong mga kapitan sa barangay magmatinud-anon sa ilang tagsa-tagsa ka gimbuhaton aron sa ingon masulbad na kining atong problema sa basura," Radaza said.

The Lapu-Lapu City Solid Waste Management Office has been tasked to implement the ordinance on cleanliness, garbage collection, and environmental protection.

Last month, some barangay captains were fined for failing to collect the garbage in their places.

"Kining kampanya nato sa pagpanglimpyo, dili kini mahimo kon kami ra nga mga opisyal, kon dili nanginahanglan usab kami sa tabang sa tanang katawhan," Radaza said. (FREEMAN)
