Naga bracing for more rains
CEBU, Philippines - Mayor Valdemar Chiong said the City of Naga, which is known to be landslide prone, is taking precautionary measures in anticipation of more rains to come.
"I've already instructed our barangay captains to closely watch their respective areas especially those katong naa daplin sa sapa ug sa bukid mismo," said Chiong in an interview.
Chiong said the city's Risk Reduction Management Coordinating Council (RRMCC) is also monitoring the rain.
The City of Naga, according to Chiong, is composed mainly of clayish soil, reportedly about 70 percent of its entire land area, hence, mountains, in which it has several, become unstable during continuous rains.
Just this year, landslides were reported in the mountain villages of Mayana, Bairan, Naalad, and Cantaw-an.
And because of the unstability of the soil, affected areas were deemed unsafe for humans by the Mines and Geosciences Bureau.
