Talisay SP backs creation of Cebu river basin council

-

CEBU, Philippines - To protect Talisay City's water resources, the city council has approved a measure supporting the creation of the Central Cebu River Basin Council (CCRBC).

Resolution 2011-24-3, authored by Councilor Bernard Odilao, authorizes Mayor Socrates Fernandez to enter into a memorandum of agreement with other local government units and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the River Basin Control Office supporting the formulation of the CCRBC.

Odilao, who is chairman on council committee on Environment, explained the city is bound to protect its resource especially its water hence it has to move up and participate with the CCRBC in the protection, rehabilitation, development, management, and utilization of the natural resources within the Central Cebu river basins.

"Water and other natural resources within Central Cebu is recognized as vital resources that need to be properly managed to sustain the social and economic development of Cebu," read a portion of the newly approved resolution.

Odilao said this way residents will benefit from the city's water resources for a long time especially if these are properly managed.

And now that the mayor has been given the go signal by the council, the third-term legislator further explained that the city will now coordinate with the River Basins Control Office, which was created by virtue of the Executive Order No. 518 and tasked to do the job. (FREEMAN)
