Gullas son will not run for Congress
CEBU, Philippines - First district Rep. Eduaro Gullas has denied reports that his only son Gerald Anthony "Didi" will run for Congress in 2013.
"The family has not discussed that at all. We have not taken it up, neither have I renewed my "hangyo" in 2001 when he begged off because Digul (Eduardo III) was still in Grade 4 at that time," Gullas said.
The veteran legislator, who is now on his third term, however said that "our leaders would want a Gullas to run" for Congress.
Gullas is president of the Alayon Party which has exclusive hold of five of the six mayors of the first district.
Reports that the Alayon would field Didi in Congress for the next election came after he allowed his photo in tarpaulin to be displayed at a vantage view at the Tabunok Public Market, the very place where his father's billboard used to occupy for many years.
But if Didi, who has been known to be a private person, would still refuse to enter politics, Gullas said his grandson Samsam is showing interest in the post.
Samsam, 26, is the older brother of Talisay City Councilor Eduardo III.
Meanwhile, asked if he is coming back to Talisay City to become its mayor considering that Mayor Socrates Fernandez is on his last term already, Gullas said it is "too early to tell."
"A politician will never say never. But if I were to choose, I'd go back to UV," he said.
Gullas was mayor of the city from 2001-2004. (FREEMAN)
