150 "Duke" HS, college scholars now enrolled

- Jose P. Sollano -

CEBU, Philippines - Close to 150 scholars under the “Duke Scholarship Program” of Liloan Municipal Mayor Vincent Franco “Duke” Frasco are presently enrolled at the different colleges and universities in Cebu.

The municipal government of Liloan has allocated P2 million for the scholarship program started when Mayor Frasco assumed office in 2007.

Mayor Frasco said the scholars are fourth year high school and college students that are enrolled in universities.

College scholars are taking up accountancy, business administration, engineering, and other courses.

According to Mayor Frasco, he hopes they can produce a graduate by next year and it is one of the dreams under his administration to help improve the quality of education in the town.

In a related development, Mayor Frasco said his office is now working to improve English writing and speaking skills of high school/secondary students and teachers.

He said one of his ideas is to assign students and teachers a classic book to read and oblige them to write a report about what they’ve read.

This program will be called “Duke Read to Succeed Program.”

Frasco said the town is looking for partners especially foundations that prioritize education, donors, major book outlets, and retailers.

He said those who wish to support the program can inquire through [email protected](FREEMAN)
