CEBU, Philippines - A Cebu-based humanitarian group donated last week half a million pesos worth of medical equipment and instruments to the Mandaue City Hospital.

The Destiny Medical Fund, Inc. in collaboration with Cancer Aid and Research Fund in Phoenix, Arizona and two others in Vancouver, Canada donated hospital beds and mattresses, stretchers, wheelchairs, suction bottles, suction connecting tubes, stainless bowls, plastic medicine glasses, disposable drapes, stainless tray rectangulars, scrub suits, doctor’s gowns, uniforms, green blouses, assorted blankets, curtains, lapsheet pedia, Mayo scissors straight, Mayo scissors curved, among others.

Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes in accepting the donation thanked the donors saying this will help the hospital render more efficient and quality service.

Dr. Oscar Quirante, chief of the hospital, said the donation of slightly used equipment is timely in light of the accreditation received by the hospital from Philippine Health Insurance Corporation as a “center of quality” hospital.

The medical fund group managed by the Ramas family was formed in 2007 to advocate the prevention and early detection of diseases.

“This is our contribution in helping save the lives of people, especially the children, elderly, handicapped and those diagnosed terminal,” said Emma Ramas, president of Destiny Medical Fund, Inc.

According to Ramas, the donation is part of the 40-footer van carrying the

medical donation shipped from Vancouver, Canada.

Ramas also thanked their consultant, Larry Mackey of Cancer Aid and Research Fund in Phoenix, Arizona for facilitating the donations.

The Destiny Medical Fund, Inc, in coordination with the Eduardo Aboitiz Cancer Foundation conducts free pap smears, teach women self-breast cancer detection and other diagnostic procedures for other beneficiaries.

As part of its advocacy, the group sponsors a daily TV program, “The Cancer Show” and “Mind and Heart,” shown alternately over Sky Cable at 9 p.m. – THE FREEMAN
