CEBU, Philippines - To some people, Talisay City Mayor Socrates Fernandez looked funny wearing a helmet while visiting his incarcerated son Joavan at the Cebu City Police Office detention cell.
"Nganu man to si mayor uy ga-helmet man nga wa man siya ga-motor," said a city resident who refused to be named.
Fernandez emerged from a sports utility vehicle wearing a helmet.
He did not remove it even when he came face to face with Joavan who was inside the detention cell.
The resident said she and her friends laughed when they saw the mayor on television.
Fernandez, who covered his face while visiting his son, did not offer an explanation for wearing a helment.
Joavan was arrested last Thursday by the Criminal Investigation Detective and Management Branch for direct assault.
The case stemmed from last February's car chase when he rammed his vehicle to a police patrol car.
The other day however, Municipal Trial Court in Cities branch 6 Judge Pamela Baring-Uy signed an order for his release after he posted a P12,000 bail.
