13 Naga jail inmates finish elementary, HS
CEBU, Philippines - Thirteen inmates of Naga City jail last week graduated from elementary and high school, a first in the city’s history.
Rene Sayaboc, Winston Alforque, Reynaldo Cabayles finished elementary in Naga National High School in October last year.
Sayaboc, through the Department Education’s Alternative Learning System Accreditation and Equivalency (ALS A&E) Test, was also among the 10 graduates last April 28.
Chiong said this is the city’s first batch of graduates and there may be more in the future through the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology’s thrust to send its inmates to school.
“Rare ra kaayo ni nga mo-graduate ang mga inmates. But it’s good nga interesado gyud sila nga makahuman og eskwela,” Chiong said.
These inmates are facing different cases, from drug-related to petty theft.
Horton Dwight, Richard Jimenez, Christopher Wacan, Mark Allen Villarta, Jenever Largo, Eugene Sequisabal, Dennis Villarico, Francisco Bastismo, and Jener Omambac also received their high school diplomas during a short ceremony last week held at the Naga City jail.
The activity was attended by the RBJMP-VII regional director J/SSupt
Romeo Salazar Vio, School Division Superintendent Caridad C. Labe, Daria Sarsalejo, EPS ALS Designate, Dr. Marilyn M. Miranda - City ALS Coordinator, and city administrator Arthur Villamor. (FREEMAN)
