Girl, 16, accuses cop of rape

- Flor Z. Perolina -

CEBU, Philippines - A 16-year-old girl filed rape charges against the deputy police chief of the Subangdaku Police Station 1 in the City Prosecutor's Office yesterday afternoon.

The girl, who resides in barangay Cubacub, Mandaue City, alleged P/Insp. Gerardo Fiel, the deputy police chief of the Subangdaku police station, raped her inside a motel in barangay Banilad, Mandaue City last March 17.

The girl claimed she and Fiel were having a drink that day when she was later on coerced to go with him to a motel.

In her affidavit, the girl alleged it was against her will to have sex with him but gave in to his wishes when he threatened to shoot her.

The girl also stated in her affidavit that before Fiel took her home, he told her that he had taken pictures of her while she was asleep half naked.

After the alleged rape, she said there were times when Fiel would ask her out again but she refused his invitation all the time.

She said that last April 28, the boyfriend of a friend went to her house to tell her that he saw pictures of her showing her half naked hanging from a tree and that "habal-habal" drivers in the area were making fun of her pictures.

It was then that she remembered Fiel telling her then that he had taken her picture while she was asleep. She said she was drunk at the time.

She said she and a friend began looking for the police official who gave his name as "Arjun" every time they met.

They only knew his real name after the Women's Desk of the Mandaue City Police Office showed her pictures of all policemen assigned in the city.

MCPO director P Sr./Supt Noel Gillamac has relieved Fiel from his post and is currently assigned at the City Headquarters Service Group after the complaint against him was lodged Friday.  - THE FREEMAN
