Firms, scrap buyers warned

CEBU, Philippines - The head of the enforcement team of Mandaue City's Sold Waste Management Program has warned scrap buyers in Mandaue City to refrain from collecting garbage from business establishments in the city or face penalties.

Placido Jerusalem said scrap buyers should heed the call or else face penalties stipulated in the Republic Act 9003 otherwise known as the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 or RA 9003.

Also warned were companies that employ the services of scrap buyers. Jerusalem said erring companies face the same penalties.

The same law prohibits the transporting and dumping of commercial, domestic, and industrial wastes unless authorized by the city government.
