Motorcade to mark start of Mandaue fiesta celebration

CEBU, Philippines - A motorcade around the city will kick off Mandaue City's fiesta's two-week long activities in celebration of the feast of St. Joseph, the patron saint of the city.

The motorcade, which will start at 8 a.m. today, will be joined by more than 100 vehicles from 27 barangays, NGO'S, and city hall employees led by Mayor Jonas Cortes.

Louella Cabanero, vice chair of CHEST, or the Cultural, Historical, Sports and Tourism Foundation which organized the activities, said every barangay, organization or group will field two vehicles.

One vehicle will carry the candidates for the Mr. and Mrs. Mandaue.

The motorcade will start from city hall and pass through all barangays.

This year's theme is "Mandaue: Our Home, Our Future."

From city hall, it will proceed to barangay Looc via C. Ouano St. then to barangay Opao, proceeding to barangays Umapad, Paknaan, Labogon, Basak, Jagobiao, Cubacub, Casili, Tawason, Canduman, Pagsabungan, Tingub, Taboik, Maguikay, Casuntingan, Cabancalan, Banilad, Bakilid,Tipolo, Subangdaku, Mantuyong, Guizo, Ibabao-Estancia, Cambaro, city hospital, barangay Centro, and will end at the sports complex.

The activity is expected to last until noontime in time for the opening of the trade exhibit at the city hall plaza.

This is followed by seaside and media presentation of Mr. and Ms. Mandaue 2011 at 3 p.m. at Shangri-La Hotel in Mactan.

A "band explosion" will follow at 8 pm. at the city hall plaza.
