TESDA supports Mandaue college

- Flor Z. Perolina -

CEBU, Philippines - The Technical, Educational Skills Development Authority (TESDA) is willing to support institutionalize the technical and vocational component of the Mandaue City College.

Assistant TESDA regional director Buenafe Sta. Rita during the 35th graduation exercises of Mandaue City government's Entrepreneurial Development Program (EDP) held Tuesday at Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex said TESDA is willing to assist Mandaue City College officer-in-charge Susana Cabahug in accrediting the technical and vocational division of the Mandaue City College.

Sta. Rita said TESDA is also helping the college have its programs ladderized which means that the skills acquired by a student will be credited to a four year course.

She cited the Bachelor of Science in Nursing which consists of four employable skills: one year care-giving course, one year healthy care service, one year midwifery, and the last year is nursing.

According to Sta. Rita, by making technical vocational as one division and higher education as another, plus the ladderized program in both divisions, make Mandaue City College "more strong."

Also at the graduation ceremony were Mandaue City Vice Mayor Glenn Bercede, city councilors Demetrio Cortes Jr. and Nenita Layese, and other city officials.

Officer-in-charge Evangeline Manalili said being processed is the merging of the two vocational schools, the EDP and MCFOLTECH or the Mandaue City Free Technological and Entrepreneurial Skills Training Center, into one.

Under a newly approved ordinance, the two will be under one name, Mandaue City Technological and Entrepreneurial Skills Training (MCTEST) Center, which comprises the tech-voc division of Mandaue City College. - THE FREEMAN
