Lapu-Lapu council seeks increase in PACGOR aid

- Jose P. Sollano -

CEBU, Philippines - The Lapu-Lapu City council has approved a resolution requesting the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR)-Mactan to increase the monthly assistance to the city government from P1.5 million to P3 million.

The city council resolution sponsored by Councilor Harry Don Radaza said PAGCOR is the vital arm of the government in nation-building being the second biggest state-owned institution in terms of revenue.

PAGCOR-Mactan has been giving the city P1.5 million every month as support to the city's priority programs and projects.

Since 1992, the city government has been a recipient of the amount from PAGCOR and it has truly contributed to the good and well being of the city.

However, the amount has been divided for electrical consumption, peace and order, and health programs of the city.

Councilor Radaza said that considering the city is now highly urbanized and a lone congressional district, there are greater demands for infrastructure projects which are essential to the community, self-sustainable economic livelihood projects, projects connected with the delivery of basic health services, improvement of peace and order, extension of emergency assistance to the victims of natural disasters and calamities and such other projects that will help achieve social amelioration among the less privileged that indulge gargantuan financial consideration.

Programs and activities as well as the improvement of infrastructure have been undertaken and organized so as to ensure the warranted services to the community.

The city councilor said there is a need to increase the assistance coming from PAGCOR considering the con-tinuing increase in development in the city. – THE FREEMAN
