Speeding truck catches power lines, uproots electrical poles

- Flor Z. Perolina -

CEBU, Philippines - A speeding cargo truck caught overhanging power lines along Sanchez Street in barangay Pagsabungan yesterday at around 3:40 p.m., dragging and uprooting three concrete electrical poles in the process, and causing temporary power interruption in the area.

Basak police station chief P/Insp. Stephen Amamag-id said Alberto dela Cruz, driver of the Isuzu elf, with plate No. KFF 429, owned by the Unifeeds Incorporated is being held by the Mandaue City Traffic Division.

Amamag-id said bystanders saw the vehicle traveling fast and that the driver apparently had no idea his vehicle had caught the wires and uprooted the poles.

One of the poles fell on dela Cruz's vehicle, slightly damaging it, while the other two slammed to the ground. All poles broke in two.

Amamag-id said it would probably take a while for VECO to clear the streets.

Officials said no one was hurt in the incident.
