Bridge at north coastal road without lights since Tuesday

CEBU, Philippines - The bridge at the Cebu North Coastal Road in Consolacion town has been unlighted since Tuesday after electrical wires were cut and stolen.

Alarmed town officials have sought help from the Department of Public Works and Highways.

Municipal Councilor Iluminado Alin, chairman of the committee on police said the lack of lights at the bridge put the public at the mercy of criminals aside from putting motorists in danger.

Mandaue City and Consolacion town officials had earlier asked the police to conduct patrols at the bridge to discourage vandalism and theft of electrical wires.

The request came after the theft of electrical wires was reported.

Alin said wire theft could only be perpetrated by some residents.

Suspects have alredy been arrested and charged.

In Mandaue City, Mayor Jonas Cortes said the police should continue their visibility.

Cortes said residents should help the police in protecting government property especially those at the bridge at Cansaga. –(FREEMAN)
