CEBU, Philippines - Had the police been sleeping on the job, an employee of the National Grid Corporation would have lost almost half a million pesos in cash and valuables to a man who broke into her house Monday afternoon in San Miguel Village in barangay Basak, Mandaue City.
Aida Labitad, of legal age, and a resident of the place, told police that she lost $3,000, P63,000, pieces of jewelry, and six wristwatches.
Without much ado, the inexhaustible chief of the Basak police station P/Insp. Victor Amamag-id and SPO1 Kerwin Bejer of the Investigative and Detective Management Bureau (IDMB) went to work and soon learned that the man they were looking for was known in the neighborhood as "Pare" who was seen going over Labitad's fence, and that he was at the moment at the Mandaue City Coliseum.
"Pare" confessed to the crime and led the police to his home in barangay Tayud in Liloan town where he had stashed the loot which included a Rado wristwatch priced at P35,000, seven bracelets, six rings, 4 pairs of earrings, 8 necklaces, an anklet, $2,800, P24,550, 20 Euros.The man is being detained.
