CEBU, Philippines - This early, people in the first district are already talking about the 2013 elections.
It is believed that Gerald Anthony "Didi" Gullas will take his father's place in Congress.
Didi, who is known to be a private individual despite his father's many years in public service, has allowed his photograph to be displayed in a huge tarpaulin in Tabunok Public Market for everyone to see.
He is the only son of first district Rep. Eduardo Gullas, who is now on his third and final term.
Political analysts and even the opposition in Talisay City wager that Didi will likely be fielded by his father's party, Alayon.
The Alayon has not yet made any statement regarding Didi's political plans, but he was said to be active in the past elections, supporting the party's candidates.
Naga town Mayor Valdemar Chiong and San Fernando town Mayor Antonio Canoy are also expected to run for congressional seats.
Chiong, who is with the Alayon Party, has laughed at the idea, saying the idea has not yet dawned on him.
The mayor is still on his second term, which means he can still ran for reelection in the next local polls.
Canoy, the only non-Alayon mayor in the first district, is on his first term.
He has however served for three straight terms before he was elected vice mayor in 2007.
He defeated an Alayon candidate and then incumbent Mayor Lakambini "Neneth" Reluya in the last May 10 elections, prompting political analysts to believe that San Fernando is Canoy’s country.
Canoy has not made any statement about his political plans. (FREEMAN)
