Sto. Niño returns to Talisay City

-

CEBU, Philippines - From the Guadalupe Church in Cebu City, the image of the Sto. Niño de Cebu was brought to Talisay City yesterday where it stayed at the City Hall before proceeding to the Sta. Teresa de Avila Shrine in Barangay Poblacion.

Despite the rain, hundreds of devotees, students, government officials and workers lined the street leading to the City Hall to welcome the convoy. Several devotees also attended the mass officiated by Msgr. Rommel Kintanar, parish priest of the Sta. Teresa de Avila Shrine, at the City Hall grounds.

The image will stay overnight at the Sta. Teresa de Avila Shrine in Barangay Poblacion before it will be brought to its home in Hesus Nazareno Shrine in Barangay Cansojong where it will stay under the custody of Msgr. Cristobal Garcia.

The image had visited Cebu City, Mandaue City, and Lapu-Lapu City for the yearly celebration of the Sinulog.

The City Council led by Vice Mayor Alan Bucao cancelled its regular session yesterday to accommodate the Sto. Niño.

In the resumption of its session today, the Council will tackle Proposed Resolution No. 2011-02-3 of Bucao, which urges Mayor Socrates Fernandez to make the city "disaster resilient." Bucao has also filed another resolution, Proposed Resolution No. 2011-02-4, requesting the city's General Services Office and the city accountant "to conduct inventory on all non-moving assets" of the city government. By non-moving assets, Bucao was referring to non-serviceable dump trucks, heavy equipment, and other city-owned vehicles "and other non-usable assets for possible disposal."

The council is also expected to scrutinize today two proposed resolutions by Councilor Semy Cabuenas, one of which is the request for a multicab each from Governor Gwendolyn Garcia and Fernandez for the use of the city's senior citizens. - THE FREEMAN
