Feeding programs for kids in Talisay City, Mandaue

CEBU, Philippines - Almost 5,000 children from 22 barangays benefitted from the mass feeding conducted by the Talisay City government last Wednesday in line of its 10th Charter Day anniversary.

The 4,800 children beneficiaries were pre-identified by the Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS), according to city spokesperson Arturo Bas.

Bas said aside from the nutritious meal prepared by the BNS, city officials, department heads and barangay councilmen also conducted monitoring and lectures on proper nutrition to children and their parents.

Talisay City celebrated its 10th anniversary as a city last Wednesday. The simultaneous mass feeding was just among the highlights of this year's event.

Meanwhile, alumni of the University of San Carlos College of Commerce will feed hundreds of street children living near the dumpsite in Barangay Umapad, Mandaue City on January 23.

Tomas Riveral, vice president of the college's alumni association, said they will also distribute bundles of joy to the children.

He said the feeding program in Mandaue will culminate the series of activities their association will engage in for their homecoming, including a fun run, cookout, and homecoming night, which will all be launched on January 22. The activities will be held at the University of San Carlos Technological Center in Talamban and at the Casino Español.

The fun run will start at the USC- TC and will head towards barangay Cabangcalan before returning to the starting point. (FREEMAN)
