MANILA, Philippines - The German luxury house of Hugo Boss was built on a foundation of good design.
Jason Wu, artistic director for Boss Women’s Wear (Hugo Boss’s premium line), takes inspiration from the Bauhaus movement in his collections. Of most recent note, his spring/summer 2015 collection codifies the menswear bent and tailoring the house is known for, but tempered with Wu’s romanticized DNA.
In line with the retail release of his s/s collection, Hugo Boss will act as global sponsor in support of the “Das Bauhaus #allesistdesign” exhibition at the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein, Germany. From Sept. 26, 2015 to Feb. 28, 2016, the museum will be presenting an array of previously unseen exhibits from its own collection along with significant pieces from private collections and exhibition houses worldwide. Above and beyond this, the project documents the Bauhaus movement’s development and the societal models it advocated, while revealing its surprising up-to-dateness.
“No other cultural institution is integrated so closely with the Hugo Boss identity than Bauhaus. As a symbol of clarity, stringency and precision, it also plays a pivotal and inspiring role for our collections,” explained Dr. Hjördis Kettenbach, head of cultural affairs at Hugo Boss. As such the exhibition plays a special role in the Group’s scant two decades of Arts Sponsorship.
“Das Bauhaus #allesistdesign” examines the legendary institution in light of current trends while creating the first-ever overview of the Bauhaus’ philosophy of design. The show includes works by designers and artists such as Marianne Brandt, Marcel Breuer, Lyonel Feininger, Walter Gropius, and Wassily Kandinsky. Current contributions are from Olaf Nicolai, Adrian Sauer, Enzo Mari, Norman Foster, Open Desk, Konstantin Grcic, Hella Jongerius, Alberto Meda, Olaf Nicolai and Jerszy Seymour. Selected pieces from the Boss Womenswear Collection form part of the exhibition as well.
